The next big Challenge

This year has been particularly crucial for many reasons. As I discussed previously, these changes have also affected my personal life. During the last months, something very tough loomed.

This year has reached record temperatures in different parts of the country. Severe droughts and intense heatwaves have caused this country to experience an energy crisis. Our power system relies on hydroelectric generation, so if the dry season continues, there will not be a solution. The government has announced power outages that lasted 14 hours.

You're reading right. There have been 14 hours without electricity. As a result, many small businesses have reduced their production, and many employees now fear lay-offs and workload reduction. This is similar to the COVID-19 crisis, where many jobs vanished and people had to adapt their lives to a new lifestyle.

Each week, new power cut schedules are announced, depending on your luck, it can last 4 or 5 hours in a row, it can be scheduled on midnights, or as recently, it can be announced as 14 hours even on weekends.

I have implemented some solutions to mitigate the impact of these blackouts, like acquiring UPS, saving energy during peak hours or shifting to places with electricity. The psychological impact this crisis has had on the population is notorious, I opt to disconnect from the news for a while to maintain my mental health.

I hope to bring good news in the near future, meanwhile, we need to face this crisis one more time.
