My Speaking path
Recently, I have been trying to improve my overall English level, as part of my decision to take the IELTS exam again, but now I have the experience of having taken it two years ago.
Back then, I barely speak in English, but I had a strong foundation in reading, and listening, the idea of talking with another person scared me. So, I implemented my English learning routine based on the concept of comprehensible input, which basically made me absorb the language without needing to talk so much.
My brain adapted to this method, I improved constantly, and then I implemented a writing routine, so my English level skyrocketed in a matter of months. However, despite my fast improvement, my lack of confidence when I started to speak was notorious.
After several months of preparation, I took my exam in November 2022, I was prepared to demonstrate my knowledge of the language, and my results were what I was expecting; a band 6, meaning I was a B2.
I was happy with my results, but not satisfied, when I decided to apply for scholarships I realized the competence was brutal and I needed to improve my English level, at least to reach C1 and improve my chances of achieving scholarships.
So, here I am, after almost two years, planning to retake the exam, but now something changed; I started to record myself, like podcast episodes, I realized how stagnant I was in my speaking, I needed to improve, so at the moment, this could take a while.
Now, I try to record one video per day, trying to talk about several subjects, and trying to incorporate a routine.
At the end of this year, I will see the results.
Wish me luck.
