See you in the final ⚽🎊

Liga de Quito hasn't made it to the final of an international competition in eleven years. However, they have now progressed to the final match of The Sudamericana Cup, which they previously won in 2009. This marks their attempt to win their fifth tournament.

When the team last made it to the final, I was 17 years old. I went to Quito to witness the match. This happened in 2011 and I went with my cousin and father. It's interesting that it turned out to be the last game we all went to together.

The atmosphere at the stadium was amazing. We took a 12-hour bus ride to get there, and I was excited to see a few friends who also wanted to watch the match. At the time, I was still in high school. I had been a fan of the team for a long time and had even attended one of their games back in 2008 when they won the Libertadores Cup.

I remember skipping class to attend that match that took place in the middle of the week - perhaps on a Wednesday. Seeing the game live was more important to me than attending class. Upon arrival at the stadium, we had to wait in line until the game began. The weather was pleasant, so I took the opportunity to purchase a scarf with the team's logo as a souvenir. I still have that scarf to this day.

The match started late in the afternoon, around 5 p.m. As soon as it began, the fans set off fireworks and flares, causing the stadium to be covered in red and white. The smoke from the fireworks obscured the grandstand, creating a vibrant atmosphere. However, the team ended up losing the match to their superior opponents, resulting in their defeat in the tournament. More than a decade later, the team has another opportunity to seek revenge and win the championship.
