Running 2015 when I decided diving more into college projects, more precisely, those involved in my career. Before that, I barely had contact with the university beyond the classrooms; I thought that would be a complete waste of my time. Why should I leave my comfort to be part of a university club? I felt at that moment.
It not being after that year that my student life will give a complete 180 turn. I needed financial aid that would help me to carry the cost of the tuition fee, so I decided to ask about scholarship programs. A good teacher suggested I participate in a project program to help me achieve some scholarship or financial aid.
I was sceptical at the beginning, but anyway, I agreed. After all, what would be the worst that could happen? I would be an aspirant for the scholarship to be part of the robotic club; I would be responsible for making diverse projects and programs for the club.
So surged my first approach to a robot the university had purchased months before. The robot was a humanoid prototype called Nao, produced by the Aldebaran Company; this one was part of the stand of things that the college reserved only for the club members.
Time after, I was designed to program the robot and responsible for taking care of it. I learned to use their parts, set their components, and program them to make them move and complete specific tasks.
Passing the years, I felt a special connection with the college and my career; I assume that was partly for giving time inside the facilities and being involved more with career affairs. Several times, I was invited as part of some conventions' staff inside and outside the city.
When I was doing my thesis degree project, the times with the robotic club were less frequent; I barely had contact with the freshman researchers and the times I went to the university were counted.
Now, I look back on those days when I decided to work there; many of those days made me love my alma mater and career. That little robot allowed me to be involved with society, and thanks to him, I could help with the cost of my studies and choose my thesis theme wisely.
