A decade of music 🎸
Back then in the year 2014, a young version of myself was desperate to have something to do with his life, after deciding to abandon the college during my sophomore year I needed to figure out what to do during my spare time.
I already had taken some guitar music classes where my friend tried unsuccessfully to teach me some basic concepts, he also recommended me a guitar teacher, one that had taught to him some years ago. I decided to take the classes and use my sister's old classic guitar which I had forgotten for a while.
The first formal class I received was a challenging experience, I couldn't put my fingers through the guitar diapason, and the teacher tried to teach me some basic chords (following the CAGED system), over the days I could put some chords in the guitar and play some basic notes, I tried to understand the theory behind and enjoy the music I was playing.
After many days, I could put and recognize some chord sharps, cleaned and reused the old guitar, and recalled changing the strings. I practised in my home every time I had free time (a lot of free time btw). I started trying to do some things for myself like learning some solos or intros of my favourite bands.
Over time, and after the first month of guitar lessons, I never came back, though I consider classes are not important nowadays, maybe that first step made me aware of the true potential of the instrument, I already had seen my friend play the guitar, that guy was fantastic I needed to be like him and my teacher was a good musician too, so I used them as inspiration.
Over the years, I acquired more musical criteria, hundreds of songs listened to, and many unknown guitar players appeared on the scene, I started to develop my ear, something that is almost as important as technique, I felt what I was playing and from time to time I used to play with my friend.
After 7 years of practising with the classic guitar, and after finishing college, I could afford to buy an electric guitar, with the support of my mom and some savings I had I could buy it alongside some accessories.
During the following years, and after starting my professional career, the times I spent were transitory, sometimes I didn't touch for weeks, but as riding a bike this is tough to forget.
Nowadays, I don't consider myself as a good player, though I have to recognize my progress and that I have some good techniques here and there I still amaze every time I can replicate some good solo, the same feeling I had ten years ago.
