Using technology to enhance my English 🤖🅰️
There's no doubt that the technology tools and advances play an essential role in our lives nowadays, with these advances often get easy our labours. It depends, of course, on the use that we give it; some of these advances can save even human lives and prevent many other problems and solve them even in a couple of minutes.
But, in this chapter of this blog, I will write about how the tech helps me improve my English and many other things.
I often thought that learning English was overwhelmed and bored; I used to understand it based on repeating problems, grammar tasks, and listening to the audio on an old CD player. That was the only way someone could learn this language, but it was far from reality.
While growing up and remembering my freshman college years, I couldn't remain consistent and dedicated to this language learning process, resulting in embarrassment and boredom. I had no idea how to learn it on my own; the only way I thought I could achieve that was to join a private study centre.
After years of avoiding learning this language, and in the middle of the pandemic, I decided to study consistently and put my effort into getting proficiency in English. Now, I had to learn by myself and figure out techniques and tools that could help me in this process. In my home, my sisters regularly watched movies in English, so I decided to start doing the same, but in this case, with captions to understand the film's meaning.
Months had passed, and I barely noticed some progress; I thought I wasn't good enough to learn. I asked myself If there was something I was doing wrong. Then weeks of frustration, I realised that If I wanted to be more proficient, I had to surround myself with this language.
So I began to set the language of all my stuff in English; every video or movie that I played was in this language by default. I started to follow the accounts of polyglots people and obeyed their tips; obviously, I listened to them in English.
I read a lot of sites of interest, many blogs, articles, and even the social network. I tried to be surrounded by this tongue. I started to practice my vocabulary, speaking with myself and trying to put myself into "imaginary" situations that required English.
After that, I started to do exams simulation in order to quantify my English level; I was surprised; I got up to 6 on the scale of IELTS. Then months of seeing non-progress, I feel confident about my English level.
So resuming, I left you some tips and tools that helped me with this process.
- Watching and listening to content in English (movies, videos, posts, everything counts).
- Try to write at least once per day in English. Your vocabulary will increase dramatically. I recommend using 'Grammarly' to enhance your progress and be more conscious about your writing techniques.
- Set in English on all your tech devices.
- Don't be frustrate if you can't see results. Sometimes it takes time to see progress.
- Put yourself to prove your knowledge. Try to take simulations of exams to see your progress numerically.
